For several years now, the Class racing schedule has not changed because the events in the series had been well-attended and enjoyed by all the participating members.

The North American Championship in particular has been very successful and well-attended in spite of some inconveniences on the race course. It is not likely that this event will be moved from the Chicago NOOD regatta unless an equally attractive alternative is proposed. The Class sincerely welcomes input on this from anyone anyhere.

As for the Great Lakes Series, several changes of ownership and changes in the events available have led several members to suggest fresh alternatives for the 2002 Series. Furthermore, the prevailing weather for long distance deliveries on Lake Michigan has made early and late season events difficult for everyone to attend.

Among the suggestions to be considered at the Annual Meeting are events in Chicago, Waukegan IL, Milwaukee WI and Holland MI.

One event worth mentioning in detail is a cooperative event with the S2 7.9 Meter Class that would be held in Holland MI (home of the S2/Tiara factory) in late August. The national Class Officers of the 7.9 Class have expressed a unanimous interest in an event of this nature. Tours of the S2/Tiara factory would be a likely benefit of this event.

Another suggestion has been the addition of port-to-port style races. These could offer an alternative for owners not interested in bouy racing and an additional outing for owners already competing in the bouy circuit. The Racine Hook Race and Queens Cup regattas (among others) have been mentioned as possible races in what could also be the addition of a separate “Off-shore” Series.

Many details for these and other events are being explored by the Class Officers and will be presented at the Annual Meeting. Be sure to attend if you wish to offer your input or voice your interst in the 2002 schedule.
