Minutes from 2004 ANNUAL WINTER CLASS MEETING
Jan. 31, 2004 at Strictly Sail Expo, Chicago IL

OLD BUSINESS from 2003

Introductions. Over two-dozen were in attendance representing 14 boats from 4 states. Two members from Ohio were especially welcomed to this meeting.

Paid memberships in 2003 were 36 Regular members and 3 Associate. This was a little down from 2002 but consistent with the long-term average.

Income for 2003 was 773.02. Expenses were 414.40. Expenses are normally more but fewer trophies were purchased and several web-site expenses were not required in 2003. The Class remains solvent with approximately 1850 dollars in the account as of the meeting.

Results from the 2003 North American Championship were reviewed. Due to reduced attendance at each of the Great Lakes events, no Great Lakes Championship was completed in 2003.

The web site is still running despite little work being done on it. The updates discussed at the 2003 Class meeting still have not been done as we continue to search for a new web-master. Russ Fender continues to very generously provide sporadic assistance in spite of having sold his boat two years ago. We are extremely grateful to Russ for his ongoing support. As the Class moves forward, it will become critical that a new web-master be found to maintain the Class’ most valuable asset. The updates need to be pursued this year.

NEW BUSINESS for 2004

The need for more volunteers to serve as Class Officers was discussed at length. George Darrell offered to assist as Membership Director. Bob Wagner offered to assist with sportswear efforts. Ben Fisher offered to assist with web-site activities. (due to the Commodore’s failure to provide these people with necessary materials, these tasks failed to be pursued in 2004. These efforts will receive very focused attention at the Feb 5, 20005 Meeting).

The Rules committee moved that the By-Laws be revised to recognize specific geographic Fleets within the Class. Lake Michigan will be identified as Fleet 1. Lake Erie will be identified as Fleet 2 pending five paid 2004 Class memberships. Additional discussion took place regarding how to pursue Fleet charter paperwork. The Ohio representatives pledged to take membership forms back to Lake Erie where they would collect necessary memberships for Fleet 2.

The representatives from Ohio requested more timely posting of the Meeting Minutes to the web site. The Officers pledged to work harder on this effort (again, I apologize that this has not happened until now).

The Class racing schedule for 2003 was discussed with the following result:

2004 North American Championship will be held at the Chicago NOODs on June 11-13, 2004.

The 2004 Great Lakes Fleet 1 Championship Series was discussed and approved. As in the past, 65 percent of the races completed will determine the number of throw-outs. Five boats must race at an event in order for that event to be eligible for the series. The series will consist of the following events.

Chicago NOODS June 11-13, 2004
South Haven MI One Design (SHOOD) July 10-11, 2004
Milwaukee Grand Prix August 7 - 8, 2004

A discussion of crew recruiting for Class events then followed. It was agreed by all that owners should make better use of the web site to recruit crew for Class events.

The meeting adjourned and the attendees moved to the Expo and local eateries for a period of very welcome camaraderie.

These minutes are an abbreviated summary of the meeting. These have been recorded to the best of the writer’s memory from notes that were hastily made by the Commodore during the meeting due to the absence of an active Class Secretary. My sincerest apologies for any discrepancies and for the extreme delay in their publishing.
