Hi, I am interested in info regarding the difference between a 9.1 and 9.2. I am in the market for a new boat, stepping up from a 24ft to a 30ft. The 9.2 came out in 77 which makes it more affordable, but I would like to know the differences. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Nick

The 9.2 is a bit heavier, roomier inside, has a rudder under rather than transom-mounted. The cockpit of the one I guested aboard was also easier to navigate, as it had a wheel rather than a tiller.

S2 sold the 9.1 as a "racer-cruiser" and the 9.2 as a "performance cruiser". That pretty much sums up the difference. If you are primarily a racer, the 9.1 is the best. I have had mine for 7 seasons now and am still having fun. I cruise some, but the boat is not designed for extended cruising for more than two people. The sleeping spaces are good, but the storage space is zero.

The 9.2 is roomier, has more storage, and is about 30 seconds per mile slower. As noted, the cockpit is roomier, as most 9.2's have a wheel. Note that there is also a 9.2C model (center cockpit). Aft cockpit models are referred to as "9.2A". If you are planning to cruise with a family, I think the 9.2 would be a better choice than the 9.1.
