Leaks There's no gentle way to put this, but you can't trouble-shoot a leak over the phone or via the mail. The West Marine catalog is an excellent source of information pertaining to the selection of products like sealant, etc. Check their "West Advisor" index in the catalog. Rules of thumb for trouble shooting leaks: #1. Water runs downhill #2. Water can wick (even uphill) through fabrics such as wall coverings, head-liners, carpet, etc. #3. Chainplates will leak if not periodically re-sealed. This is a boat issue, not an S2 issue. If possible, step your mast, dig out all old caulk, seal with twice as much sealant as your most frugal relative would use, re-step the mast and seal some more (hopefully before the sealant all cures). Use a sealant that has both adhesive and elastic properties. #4. Don't rule out condensation as a source of moisture you find. Cold water outside the boat, and humidity in the air combine to cause condensation to collect, remember rule # 1 |
