MEMBERSHIP UPDATE AND DUES REMINDER A recent review of Class membership shows a recent decline in paid memberships. As of November 12, we have only 38 current paid 2001 memberships. This is down over 25% from the previous year! Furthermore, our records indicate that many people have established profiles and are actively posting on the web site, but have not yet paid membership dues. If you have not yet paid your 2001 dues, please take a moment to visit the membership page on the Class web site (www.s291.com). You can easily print the page and mail it with your check as instructed. Associate members (crew and others) are also encouraged to establish or renew their memberships. If you are not sure if you have paid for 2001, please feel free to contact Loren Thompson, the Class Membership Director or Scott Corder, the Past Commodore. Their contact information is on the Class Officer page of the web site. It has become very clear over the past year that the web site is delivering a great value to anyone sailing a 9.1 Meter. The fact is, the growing archive of resource information on our web-based bulletin board has become the envy of several other one-design classes. In addition to the sizeable, ongoing cost of hosting the web site and updating the software, the Class pays annual dues to the US Sailing One-Design Council, publishes an annual newsletter, conducts an annual Class meeting, purchases trophies for national and regional events and maintains an ongoing liason with the factory. The annual dues of $20 is a very reasonable fee given the quantity and quality of information and community provided by the Class through these efforts. It should also be noted that the cost of annual dues has not changed since 1995. Finally, to date the Class has eagerly provided free access to all these services, regardless of membership status. We remain very hopeful that the continued success of this honor system for paid memberships will prevent the Class from limiting web-site access to only current paid members. To be sure, we recognize that the absence of frequent mailed newsletters has diminished our opportunities to remind everyone regarding dues. In that light, we are hopeful that this note will serve to refresh everyone’s memory. Our best wishes to all of you in this upcoming holiday season! |
