Robert: If you want a boat in the 30 ft. range that can race well and also go cruising with a few friends & family, the S2 9.1 is an excellent choice. All boats are compromises, and this one is very well done. Yes, there are faster boats out there, but you can't cruise them. There are also 30-footers with better accommodations, but they are slow. The biggest defect for extended cruising is that there is very little storage. I have owned "Shooting Star" for 10 seasons now and I am very happy. I race every week and take a 2-week cruise in Long Island Sound every year. I can convert from racing trim to cruising trim (roller furler, lazy jacks, cruising main, and dinghy davits) in about 2 hours. Anyway, I hope you find a good boat (preferably a 9.1!) and enjoy good sailing. Mike Bergmann |
