Ed, The posts above already provide as much info as I have in my head. Like Jeff, I do not recall ever seeing evidence of metal in the stub while my keel was off the boat. My keel bolts had staining similar to Jeff's before we re-attached the keel. The yard that worked on my keel was Torresen Marine in Muskegon Michigan (231-759-8596). Ask for Brian Torresen. They service many of the larger racing programs on Lake Michigan and have worked on at least 4-6 of the 9.1s raced in our regional one design fleet. Brian knows the boat very well and is currently rebuilding the mast collar on one of the 9.1 Meters in our fleet. Anthing else I might be able to add is already posted in my lengthy notes under the mast step section of the web site board. Hope all goes well. One other VERY important suggestion: While the keel is off the boat, be sure to check the top of the keel for a stamped weight (in pounds). This should match your keel certificate (if you have one). It might be very worthwhile to record that weight and even take a picture of the stamping for long-term records. Don't be alarmed if it isn;t exactly 3250 lbs, most weren't. In any case, it would simply be very helpful if you (or future owners of the boat) had accurate data (and photographic proof) should the issue ever arise in the future.
