I just did my mast step and removed and rebedded my keel last spring. I didn't cut into the keel stub, but when the boat was in the slings, separated from the keel, I did examine the bolt holes very closely and it appeared to be solid glass. I had a lot rust around the keel bolts and tracked it to 2 sources. The nuts and washers on the keel bolts themselves were not stainless, appeared to be glavanised, they were very rusty. After I replaced them all with SS fasteners I still had rust stains and think it was all coming from the corroding hose clamp on the bilge pump strainer. Good luck |
