Jeff,

I have kept my boat on a mooring for five years on the Severn River in the Chesapeake Bay. There is little tidal flow, and the anchorage is sheltered from any strong northerlys.

All that being said, I have experienced no chafe from the 2 lines (3-strand) I use as painters. But, if I was worried about chafe, I would simply cover the line with some sort of small fabric or plastic chafe gaurd.
