I am sad to report that I found a strange problem that will really put a stop to my planned launch date this year.

I had some cracking in the fiberglass in the keel stub, just as it joins the bottom 'V' of the boat going forward. There was also some cracking on the keel going aft. I thought all of this was associated with flexing of the hull/keel joint; a common problem of all boats with bolt on fin keels.

As I was grinding the front of the keel, and preparing the area for fiberglass repair, I found the crack to be very deep. I then discovered a small crack on the INTERIOR just at the front of the bilge, corresponding directly with the crack outside. The cracking in the aft part of the keel seems to be just common flexing though.

This is disconcerting, and is out of my range of repair experience, so I will be hiring the very competent repair company at the yard. However, I am wondering if anyone else has seen anything like this on their boat, and what type of repair they undertook. My boat is a 1983, hull #5.

p.s. my boat has already had (typical 9.1 repair) the keel step replaced.
