YYC Level Regatta 2003 PHRF
(Our first big regatta, racing "the cottage") Racing level (all boats equal - no PHRF) we were put into a mixed bag fleet of Tarten Tens, a custom C&C 3/4 ton, a new Benateau first 27.7, a J30, and a Gilbert 25. Winds we strong 16 (gusting up to 25 knots), and we flew the #1 briefly before deciding to use the #3, and then add a reef into the main. We flew Spinnaker every time off the wind, and only broke a (too lightweight) spinnaker sheet schackle. I will never go cheep on buying parts again. We had a fantastic time, and the results are tighter than you might think. (With 5 boats finishing within 4 seconds for example). "Paladen" did not disapoint - and taught us where all the "holes" in our equipment, and boat prep lay. We ended up 5th, behing 3 Tarten tens, and the C&C (1 point from 4th). Once the official results are up I will post them here. we beat 2 other Tarten Tens, the Beneteau, the J30, and a Gilbert 25 (MORC boat). Not great, but not bad - if the winds were a little calmer, and the crew wasn't as green (myself included) we would have slid up a spot of two.
