1999 MORC INTERNATIONALS, Wayzata MN

Lake Minnetonka MN- Greg Grassle recently discovered the Class web site and reports that he became a 9.1 owner last year after crewing for several years.

The Wayzata YC hosted the 1999 MORC Internationals on his home waters in September, just outside Minneapolis. With some friendly encouragement from his peers, Greg and his crew decided to throw their hat in the “ring” and entered the race with very worn dacron sails and borrowed spinnaker gear (that warranted a handicap penalty). Combining this with finding themselves in Div “A”, Greg reports that “they got their #@!? handed to them”, placing seventh out of seven in class. All was not lost, however, as his crew had arranged for a hot tub for the event, which greatly eased the “agony of defeat”.

An interesting sidebar: the Sailing World magazine Jan 2000 issue quotes the Wayzata YC Capri 25 fleet as “Making a better world through one-design racing and stern mounted BBQ grills”.
